“Mr. Strongbow, I like to run a smooth and very uneventful prison. Since I took over as Warden four years ago the murder rate here at San Quentin has dropped by seventy-eight percent. Now, having said that, I have a little concern about your stay here in my prison; in those four years, one of those murdered was your brother, Jake. So, my concern is that you will be seeking retribution for those responsible for his murder. And quite frankly, after reading your Military records, I am even more concerned. I too was in the military and was Deputy Warden at Leavenworth. Reading your file here and seeing how you were not just Airborne, but also Special Forces, I know that taking another’s life is not strange to you and I assume that you have no regret or remorse. Am I correct on that?”

My turn to give him a stern look as I nodded my head yes.

“Are you also a member of the Hell Hounds or any other gang, Strongbow?”

“Not at all.”

“I believe you. I had a friend at the San Francisco Police do a background check on you. So, now the bigger question, do you have plans on seeking revenge on those who murdered your brother?”

“I plan on walking out of here in seventeen months’ time. I have wasted enough of my life in Nam fighting a war that we had no right being in. I am sure your cop friend has never heard of anyone being charged with an accessory to a drug overdose. I made a mistake, it cost me my girlfriend’s life and now I am paying for that mistake. If the Hounds want to go after whoever killed my brother, let them.”

Written by Tim Ford, (Book 6 of the Mitch Strongbow Series) Rated R for violence, language, and mature themes.
