From One Christmas to the Next

December 8, 2020- K.G. Watson has written another wonderful book! Today, we’ll give you a sneak peek into his brand-new novel titled From One Christmas to the Next available on Amazon here: From One Christmas to the Next: Watson, K.G., Goubar, Alex: 9781989506264: Books – Amazon.ca Or available for pre-order on our site here: From One Christmas to the Next – Pandamonium Publishing House
This novel is book 1 of 2 in a sequel! Here’s an excerpt from his book:

He hadn’t counted on going in. He’d just been too darned lonely house-sitting the place while its owner studied overseas.  He really resented the inane or gratuitously violent TV offerings.  So, after his TV dinner, he’d just gone out, walking, till he got tired enough to sleep – just like every other night for the past six months. But who counted? He had seen the bustle from a block away.  Cars had been trying to get into the plugged parking lot.  Lines of bundled-up families chatted excitedly and called to each other as they converged.  Bright light bathed the spire and filled the windows.  He found himself trapped between clumps of people ahead and behind and fenced in by the solid row of parked cars to his left.  The human tide simply herded him off the sidewalk with them and up the broader approach to the double doors.  Rather than step out of the line into the knee-deep snowbanks, he decided he’d just go with the flow.  It wasn’t that he didn’t know the drill.  It was Christmas Eve.  How many similar services had he conducted through his lifetime?  It’s just he couldn’t do it anymore.  And he had nobody to not do it with either since Margaret had died back in the Spring.

The memory brought the image the Remembrance Cards the Funeral Home had produced.  She had always demanded she be referred to as ‘Margaret’ never ‘Maggie’.  A moment when he had called her that as he sang an old song about being young had set off an unexpected explosion. “I was named Margaret and that is the name on my Birth Certificate, and my Driver’s License and my bloody Passport,” she had shouted.  “Get used to it!”  She’d never sworn before or after. “OK,” he said to himself halfway up the walk. “What else is there to do tonight, anyway?” Most of the group ahead turned towards a side entrance – probably the Christian Education Wing or something similar – big gym, meeting rooms, kitchen, likely the church office.  They left a pair of animated adults right in front of him.  One pulled open the main door to let his partner enter and the two couples behind him all but pushed him inside.

He took two more steps forward and the group closed ranks behind him – a solid wall of backs in wool worsted. He reflexively pulled off his toque as he stepped through the inner vestibule doors into the sanctuary.  Belatedly, he noticed he had passed the cloakrooms to the right and left just behind him.  He had opened his coat.  He’d be OK.  At that moment he just wanted to get out of the road of the people now fanned out behind him.  Three large steps got him into a pew with an aisle seat.  A mother tugged a child closer to her, leaving the seat open.  When she gave his tousled hair, last cut six months ago, and his three-day stubble a second look, she moved the child to her other side giving as much space as possible between them and the vagrant she obviously thought he was.

Excerpt from chapter 2-My Name is Jessica Westlake

May 29, 2020– I’m almost done my next thriller novel titled, My Name is Jessica Westlake. Today I thought I’d share an excerpt from chapter two. I hope that you enjoy it! Look for it online and in stores on July 1st, 2020.

Sunlight drips through the window and onto the floor. I open my eyes and disappointment sets in; I had hoped I wouldn’t wake up, and I wish that I hadn’t made it through the night. I feel cheated because I want nothing more than to join Benjamin, to hold him, and tell him that I love him. I want to apologize to him because I failed as a mother. My one job was to protect him, and I didn’t. I would give my life a hundred times over for him to have a chance at survival; every thought is of him, and every second of consciousness torments me and shreds my soul into strips of grief. There is no way that I can go on; there is no point anymore because the mother that I prepared myself to be is gone, and an empty shell takes her place. Cloudy thoughts and tears fill every moment; it is as if there is an unquenchable reserve of fresh torture that replays over and over each time I wake up. I can’t help but think that teenage girls who are barely out of high school can have children; women who live in Third World and war-torn countries are able to deliver a child who is not born asleep. I wasn’t even able to manage that. Each breath feels like wasted effort; I’ll never hear him laugh, never see him smile, and I’ll never be able to rest his body on mine or feel his heartbeat. What is the worst part? All of it. Every single horrific moment.

From My Novel, Coming Out Next Year (2019)

December 6, 2017- Here’s an excerpt from my untitled novel that is coming out late next year (2019). Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Before I close my eyes I catch a glimpse of his tiny body covered in my blood; he has two perfect hands and feet, and a beautiful face. I struggle to stay awake to hear his cry, but the room is silent; at that moment, I know that our son is dead.

School Visits are in Full Swing!

November 28, 2017- I’m very happy to announce that school visits are in full swing for this year and into 2018. It has been an absolute pleasure to visit students in various schools to read them my book Deer Diary. I’m always inspired by what they have to say, and they often give me new and exciting ideas for upcoming books; This is precisely what happened during a school visit in Hamilton on Friday! The students wanted to know if next time, I could write a book about different woodland animals, as I had left out some of their favourites! When I asked them what animals they would like to see in the future, the answer was unanimous: They picked a wolf, a fox, and an owl! That being said, I’m thrilled to say that I’ve decided to write a sequel to Deer Diary with a whole new cast of characters that will include the animals that the students suggested. Of course, this means that I will dedicate Deer Diary 2 to the students of that school! Look for Deer Diary 2 in the summer of 2019:)

Obsessed with Her…Countdown to Release, 55 Days!

October 31, 2017- It’s official, there are 55 days until the release of my newest book, Obsessed with Her. This is definitely not a book for kids, but is a psychological thriller for grown-ups! We’ve got to have our own fun, right?

Obsessed with Her has been in the works for a year and so much has gone into it. I’ve had tons of help along the way from some exceptional consultants, including my Beta Group readers and the wonderful officers from the Toronto Homicide Unit. There are so many people to thank and acknowledge for allowing this book to come to life!

I’ve decided to write this book, and all of my thrillers going forward, under the pen name, L.L. Colling but rest assured, it’s still me. Sometimes authors like to separate their works and genres by writing under a pen name, and I’ve decided to do the same.

I’ll keep you posted on any developments such as a potential pre-release and any other exciting info that will be coming up in the weeks that follow.
