Kids in Poverty

October 23, 2020– Why should a good education be exclusive to rich kids? Schools in low-income neighbourhoods across the US, specifically in communities of colour, lack resources that are standard at wealthier schools — things like musical instruments, new books, healthy school lunches and soccer fields — and this has a real impact on the potential of students. Kandice Sumner sees the disparity every day in her classroom in Boston. In this inspiring talk, she asks us to face facts — and change them.

5 Things…

November 15, 2019– Want to change your writing life in a year? A month? A week? What if I told you it could be easy as 1, 2, 3? Well, maybe 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. It’s true, your entire life can change by doing five things, here’s how:

  1. Make a list of 5 things that you will do each day. These are things that are considered the MOST important tasks that must be completed by the end of the day.
  2. Make your list the night before. This is an important step because as soon as you wake up, you’ll know exactly what you have to work on and you’ll be able to get started right away. No time to waste!
  3. Keep your list so that you can look back on it at the end of the week, month, year to see just how much you’ve accomplished and what steps you took to create your future.
  4. Start a new list each day. Try not to repeat the things you did the day before. New items on your list breed new results and new opportunities.

Be sure to do things that will further your intentions as an author. Maybe you need to check in with your mentor or find one, perhaps you need to call distributors to see how you can get them to carry your titles, or maybe you need to read for an hour a day in an area of your field. Whatever your five things are, commit to them and watch your career and your life change. X LLB
