Excerpt from chapter 2-My Name is Jessica Westlake

May 29, 2020– I’m almost done my next thriller novel titled, My Name is Jessica Westlake. Today I thought I’d share an excerpt from chapter two. I hope that you enjoy it! Look for it online and in stores on July 1st, 2020.

Sunlight drips through the window and onto the floor. I open my eyes and disappointment sets in; I had hoped I wouldn’t wake up, and I wish that I hadn’t made it through the night. I feel cheated because I want nothing more than to join Benjamin, to hold him, and tell him that I love him. I want to apologize to him because I failed as a mother. My one job was to protect him, and I didn’t. I would give my life a hundred times over for him to have a chance at survival; every thought is of him, and every second of consciousness torments me and shreds my soul into strips of grief. There is no way that I can go on; there is no point anymore because the mother that I prepared myself to be is gone, and an empty shell takes her place. Cloudy thoughts and tears fill every moment; it is as if there is an unquenchable reserve of fresh torture that replays over and over each time I wake up. I can’t help but think that teenage girls who are barely out of high school can have children; women who live in Third World and war-torn countries are able to deliver a child who is not born asleep. I wasn’t even able to manage that. Each breath feels like wasted effort; I’ll never hear him laugh, never see him smile, and I’ll never be able to rest his body on mine or feel his heartbeat. What is the worst part? All of it. Every single horrific moment.

An Excerpt From Obsessed with Her, By L.L. Colling

January 13, 2020– I was fortunate enough to have a lot of expert help on my first psychological thriller, Obsessed with Her. Because I’ve never committed any of the acts that my characters have (yet), I thought it was essential to enlist the experts, particularly at the Toronto Police Department (Homicide Division). Here is an excerpt from the book. You can order your copy at https://pandamoniumpublishing.com/product/obsessed-with-her-novel/ or on Amazon. I genuinely appreciate your support of my work and I hope that you enjoy Obsessed with Her.

He finally obeys my orders and releases the restraints. I swing my legs over the edge and let them dangle for a second while I balance. I reach for the neck brace and pain shoots through both of my arms; I let them down by my sides slowly before trying again, this time ignoring the pain. I put one foot on the pavement and then the other, all the while steadying myself with both hands on the edge of the stretcher. I slowly walk toward the house focusing on one step at a time. The pain piercing through my chest has nothing to do with my fall. A detective is standing at the door and tightens his lips when he sees me.

What would you do if your child was missing? How far would you go to find out what happened to her? Obsessed with Her is every parent’s worst nightmare, with twists and turns so shocking, it will leave you breathless until the very last page.

Here is where you can find some reviews of the book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/37853271-obsessed-with-her?from_search=true&qid=SW6nnL5QEV&rank=2

Publisher’s Corner…

May 31, 2019– This is an interesting question that I got from a reader during a book signing that I was at with Obsessed with Her. I’ve been asked this on more than one occasion so I thought it might be good to share!

Q: “Lacey, why did you write a prequel to Obsessed with Her? Why not a sequel, and did you have this in mind from the beginning?”

A: I wrote a prequel to Obsessed with Her because the story wasn’t finished yet. I needed to release the books in this order for the story to make sense and for quite simply the sake of interest in the character and his development. I didn’t want to leave my readers with a ton of backstory to start with so the manuscript demanded to be written and released this way.

I didn’t write a sequel to Obsessed with Her because the ending is final. There is no chance of a sequel and that’s all I’ll elude to as to not spoil it for those who have not finished or read the book yet.

Yes, I had this prequel in mind from the beginning, I hadn’t written it yet, but it was always going to happen. Obsessed with Her is unfinished without the prequel and leaves the reader with too many questions. The prequel shows why James Cass behaves the way he does and what type of person he truly is. Obsessed with Her will make perfect sense after the release of, Becoming James Cass (prequel) that is set to hit the shelves this October!

Is Your Character a Psychopath or Sociopath?

May 7, 2018- If writing thrillers, domestic noirs, or mysteries is your thing, it’s important to know the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath so that you can correctly portray your character. This is where credibility as an author comes into play and this cool infographic from healthtopia.net is the perfect tool to help you craft your character.

Psychopath Vs Sociopath. I'm an actual psychopath. Not like the people saying "oooh im a psychopath I'm so edgy." I actually am.

From My Novel, Coming Out Next Year (2019)

December 6, 2017- Here’s an excerpt from my untitled novel that is coming out late next year (2019). Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Before I close my eyes I catch a glimpse of his tiny body covered in my blood; he has two perfect hands and feet, and a beautiful face. I struggle to stay awake to hear his cry, but the room is silent; at that moment, I know that our son is dead.
