A creator was enthusiastically explaining how you could make money by reading children’s books on the platform. He even highlighted a fellow TikToker who was raking in cash by simply reading storybooks aloud. While this might sound like an easy and fun way to earn a living, it immediately raised red flags for me. I ran to the comments , hoping that people understood the serious legal and ethical implications of doing this.
The Allure of Easy Money
The idea of making money by reading children’s books on TikTok sounds like a dream come true. It’s easy to see why an idea like this would go viral. After all, who wouldn’t want to earn money doing something as simple and fun as reading kid’s books aloud? The creator was likely riding high on views, likes, and follows, attracting many others to the idea. But there’s a problem with this…a big one.

There’s a critical aspect that many are overlooking: copyright infringement. As a publisher, I knew I had to say something. I commented and stated clearly that this practice is illegal and you must obtain permission from the author or publisher. Without that permission, we can sue you…and we will. And we’ll win every time.
