As the days grow shorter and shadows stretch longer, we invite you to submit to Darkness Falls, an anthology dedicated to celebrating the eerie beauty, mystery, and melancholy of autumn. This is a collection of stories, poems, and creative nonfiction that captures the spirit of fall where golden leaves meet ghost stories, and quiet transformation rustles every bush and branch.
We are looking for works that explore:
• Haunted houses, legends, or ghost stories
• The changing season as metaphor for themes such as grief, rebirth, or transformation
• Autumnal nostalgia and Halloween memories
• Folklore, rituals, or magical realism rooted in fall
• Cozy chills or unsettling whispers in the dark
Whether your piece leans spooky, reflective, whimsical, or lyrical, we look forward to experiencing your unique voice and welcome your piece!
What We Accept:
• Short Fiction (1,000–4,000 words)
• Poetry (up to 3 poems per submission; max 100 lines each)
• Creative Nonfiction / Personal Essays (up to 3,000 words)
• Flash Fiction (under 1,000 words)
We enthusiastically encourage submissions from both emerging and established writers. All entries must be original and unpublished (including on personal blogs or Patreon).
Submission Guidelines:
• Send your work as a Word document (.doc or .docx) or Google Doc (shareable link).
• Use standard manuscript formatting (12 pt Times New Roman, double-spaced, 1″ margins).
• Include a short author bio (50–75 words) in the body of your email or submission form.
• Simultaneous submissions are okay, but please notify us if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
• You may submit in more than one category (e.g., a poem and a short story), but please send them in separate files.

We’re all about that spooky, eerie vibe, but we’d prefer to keep things on the chillier side rather than the gory side. A little blood or a creepy scene is fine, but please keep it atmospheric—we’re looking for stories that build tension, mystery, and those autumn feels, rather than relying on shock or graphic violence. Think psychological thrills, haunting folklore, or subtle chills that leave you thinking long after the page is turned.
